It’s an iconic half marathon. 13.1 miles of hard work to raise much needed funds for this amazing charity based in Sheffield.

It just got real

The numbers have arrived. The donations are coming in, the training is underway. All there is now is approximately 20809 steps between the start and the finish.

Support Dogs (registered charity number 1088281) is a national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. They provide, train and support specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.

They specialise in three specific programmes:

  • Autism assistance dogs for children with autism. The dogs are trained to provide safety for the child and reduce stress in social environments.
  • Seizure alert dogs for people with epilepsy. The dogs are trained to provide a 100% reliable, up to 50 minute warning prior to the onset of an epileptic seizure. This enables the client to find safety and be in control over their seizure, allowing a much more independent life.
  • Disability assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities. The client’s own pet dog is trained to perform tasks which are specifically tailored to their individual needs, providing them with greater independence and safety.

Established in 1992, Support Dogs works across England, Scotland and Wales and provides all it services entirely free of charge to those in need of them. However the charity relies solely on voluntary donations and receives no government funding.

One story:

Anna Leggot

21 years ago I was diagnosed with epilepsy. 9mth pregnant sat on the settee and woke up 5 days later with a baby laid next to me. My seizures weren’t nice and with a new baby, and also split from my partner. With being in and out of hospital and my seizures getting worse someone suggested a support dog to help and by then my son was older. I Applied but unfortunately back then Support Dogs were very view and far between , so I always said when I could I would donate money to them.

Over the years my epilepsy hasn’t been great but compared to some definitely not complaining.

So I got Alfie instead he is absolutely Amazing ! he always here for me he licks my face when I fit , even gets my mail ! love him so much.

About 5 years ago started crafting found it calmed me so now I have plucked up the courage to go on YouTube after every time I go to do a craft fair I can’t do it due to anxiety but not letting it beat me and want to do this !!

I know it will be ok as Alfie is with me by my side really hope you can donate something so someone else can have a trained Alfie by their side.

You Will make a difference to someone’s life.
Do it today..

Thank you 🙏

Anna and Alfie 🐶
